School Access
To maximize the safety and security of all students, the outside doors are locked at all times (except during morning entry). The front doors to the school have a security button and intercom to gain entry to the building. Once admitted, the person must sign in at the office.
Visitors & Volunteers Sign-in
All parents, visitors and volunteers must report directly to the office and receive a Visitor ID Card before proceeding to other areas of the school. This is an additional security measure to keep our school safe. Please note that, under no circumstances, can a visitor (including parents) go to the classrooms without checking in to the office first.
Picking Your Child Up
A sign-out book is kept inside the two front doors of the main entrance. Parents can call the office to let us know of the necessity to pick up their child early. Students can only be picked up by parents or parent-authorized persons. Please contact the office to change or review approved pick-up people for your child. Please help us to be aware of any custody agreements that may dictate who your child is permitted to leave the school with. Copies of these documents should be given to the secretary.
At dismissal, students can be picked up at their designated areas.
After School Supervision
Please be reminded that students must leave the school field and playground after school and go home unless they have direct parent supervision. School staff members are not available to supervise outside after school. We are glad to keep kids safe in the office until parents arrive. If you have made an arrangement for another parent to supervise your child after school, please send a signed note to the office so we can ensure that they are put in the hands of their designated adult.
Lockdowns
All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.
Evacuation Procedures
In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
Video Surveillance Technology
The Calgary Board of Education may install and use video surveillance technology at select schools to support maintaining a safe and secure environment and to help control vandalism and criminal activity on school property.
Personal information gathered by video surveillance is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) section 33(b). The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.
This technology is considered a complement to, and not a replacement for, CBE's strategies in supporting a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful learning and work environment for students and staff.
Approval, installation and use of video surveillance technology will comply with Administrative Regulation 1066.
For questions or concerns, please contact the school principal.
